Where does Eduro Networks provide service?
Eduro Networks currently offers broadband Internet, VOIP and WiFi services in Frederick County, MD. We are rapidly expanding to other areas within the state, so if we do not currently provide service in your area, check back for future service options.

How are Eduro Networks broadband services delivered?
Eduro Networks owns and operates a private, carrier-independent fixed wireless broadband network. Services are delivered wirelessly to a broadband antenna that is typically mounted on the roof of your building. A cable is then run from the antenna to your computer network, where it is connected to a standard Ethernet device using either Cat5 or fiber.

How does Fixed Wireless Broadband work?
Fixed wireless broadband networks operate in much the same fashion as traditional wired networks, except the copper or fiber lines used in wired networking are replaced with high-capacity wireless antennas.

How fast is the service?
Eduro Networks broadband services provide dedicated, symmetrical speeds up to 3 Mbps.

What do “dedicated” and “symmetrical” bandwidth really mean?
Dedicated bandwidth means your Eduro Networks service provides steady line rate speeds with no bursting and no degrading or slowing of the service due to network usage. This is much different from cable modem or other low-end services such as DSL, which often deliver far less that their advertised “up to” speed, particularly during peak business hours.
Symmetrical speed means Eduro Networks delivers the same speed for upload and download. Whether you are sending an e-mail, uploading a file, using Internet voice or video, or interacting with online applications, you get consistent, reliable upload and download performance.

How long will it take to get my Eduro Networks service up and running?
Eduro Networks guarantees broadband services installed within 3 business days, or your first month of service is free! We can  install within 24 hours if required by the customer. Additional charges will apply.

What if I need to upgrade to more bandwidth in the future?
Eduro Networks can provision many bandwidth upgrades in just hours, so it is easy to get the bandwidth you need, when you need it. We offer affordable, flexible increments of 1 Mbps up to 5 Mbps, as well as convenient incremental upgrades for higher bandwidth services. All of Eduro Networks broadband services are simple to upgrade, and do not require additional expensive hardware purchase or bonding to achieve higher bandwidth service.

How do Eduro Networks prices compare to other solutions?

Can I get a static IP address?
Yes, Eduro Networks provides a static IP address for each account. Additional netblocks can also be made available at no charge when required.

IMPORTANT If you are roaming outside the Eduro Networks service area and your outbound mail is being rejected, you may need to contact the ISP you are using to configure to their outbound mail server settings.

How do I filter out spam?
Potential spam messages are marked “{Spam?}” in the subject line of the incoming email. When you create a rule for your mail client filters to look for “{Spam?}” in the subject line, it either deletes the email or moves it into a special folder. Because false positives are possible, we recommend you check this folder occasionally and delete these emails manually.

How do I upload my business website?

When does Eduro Networks perform service maintenance?
Eduro Networks will notify customers in advance of any maintenance activity, unless it is an emergency. We schedule service maintenance are between 4am and 8am unless otherwise indicated.

Q. How does EduroStream®  broadband compare to dial-up?

A. Dial-up operates at 56Kbps. Our service operates from 1 Mbps to 6 Mbps depending on the service plan subscribed to, a performance improvement of 20 to 75 times faster dial-up. Our service is ‘always on,’ so you don’t need to re-establish your connection each time you want to use it. Eduro Networks does not require any phone lines.

Q. How does EduroStream broadband compare to DSL and Cable Modem?


A. Unlike DSL or Cable Modem, our service does not depend on telephone or cable TV infrastructure. This enables Eduro to reach many communities and business parks where DSL and Cable Modem are unable or unwilling to go.

Our service plans offer performance comparable to DSL and Cable Modem, but with some important differences:
* Faster upload speeds than comparably priced DSL or Cable Modem.
* Optional static IPs even on residential service and few restrictions against using servers or VPNs
* Superior customer service

Q. How does EduroStream broadband compare to Satellite?

A. Wireless broadband is sometimes confused with Satellite because they are both forms of wireless communication. The difference is that Eduro uses a terrestrial system that uses short-range wireless links. The latency on these short-range links is comparable to wired links like DSL and Cable Modem so the performance remains high.

Satellite links have a large propagation delay due to the roughly 23,000-mile distance to geosynchronous satellites. This latency imposes a performance penalty on two-way interactive applications, regardless of bandwidth speed. For this reason Satellite should only be considered as a last resort for Internet service.

Q. How does EduroStream broadband compare to a hard wired T1?
A.  Depending on the service level purchased, our typical download speed is 4 times faster than a T1, and at a fraction of the cost.  Upload speed will be near to that of a T1 or in excess of, depending on your location.  Our system is very efficient in allowing data transmissions to occur without delay, unlike other access systems. In most areas, it can take up to 60 days from time of order to have a T1 installed by the phone company or other provider. Your Eduro connection will be installed within 3 business days of your order. Additional bandwidth can be added to your Eduro connection with 24 hours notice, while a T1 can not be upgraded.

Q. How does the weather affect Eduro Networks service?
A. The effects of weather on radio signals vary, based on the frequency used and the distance the signal travels. With the frequencies and distances in our network, signal degradation due to heavy rain, snow, or fog are negligible. The degradation due to heavy rain is less than .2 db and our system is designed with at least a 10 db signal fade margin.

Q. How large is the antenna used to provide Eduro Networks service? Will I need a permit or HOA approval to place it on my building?
A. The antenna we use is 12" tall x 3.5" wide and weighs less than 1 pound. Your installer may recommend an 18” dish to enhance the speed and reliability of your connection.

Section 207 of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 prohibits restrictions on the use of “Over-the-Air Reception Devices” from government (cities or counties) or non-government (landlords or homeowner associations) entities. The ruling pertains to antennas less than 1 meter in diameter and less than 12 feet above roofline. You may still want to contact your landlord for any guidelines they may have on placement of the antenna. Q. Are there any health or safety concerns with the wireless signal?
A. No. The technology used by Eduro Networks operates at very low power levels (4 Watts), which is similar to that of a cell phone, and much lower than that which is emitted by your microwave oven. Also, radio frequency power drops dramatically as you move away from the power source.

Q. What are the system requirements for my PC to use Eduro Networks service?
A.Your PC must have a 10BaseT or 100BaseT Ethernet Network Interface Card (NIC). We do not load any software onto your computer. All your PC needs is TCP/IP software and a web browser. Windows 95 or newer and MAC OS 8.5 or greater include TCP/IP and a browser.

Q. What router can be used with Eduro Networks service? And is it required?
A. Any broadband router that has an Ethernet port (10BaseT or 100BaseT) as its WAN or Internet port will work. This includes the wireless routers that are currently popular.  Any local computer store will sell the appropriate hardware.

A router/firewall is not required; however, it is highly recommended to protect your computer.

Additional benefits of the router include firewall protection as well as multiple Ethernet ports and IP Addresses to allow multiple computers to be online at the same time.

Q. Can more than one computer share the connection?
A. Yes, typically this is done using a router/firewall device.  In some cases we will allow you to use us as your gateway/router, but it is recommended that you purchase appropriate hardware for local installation.

Q. What is involved in the installation?
A. We install a small antenna on or near the roof of your business. Then a Cat5 cable is run down and into your building or suite. Go to "How it works" for a more detailed description.

Q. What is the typical lead time to have your service installed?
A. If your location is within range of one of our towers and has line of site to that tower, we can guarantee install within 3 business days.

Q. Do I need to have a separate ISP service with Eduro Networks service?
A. No. The ISP is included as part of our service. We provide IP addresses and email accounts as part of our offers. You may wish to continue using a dial ISP if you travel frequently, as Eduro does not currently offer a dial-up service. After working with Eduro Networks, you will not want to access the Internet with dial-up again.

How it works:
Eduro Networks provides high speed Internet service via a state-of-the-art wireless broadband system. Unlike DSL or cable modem we do not depend on the availability of legacy telephone or cable TV infrastructure. Unlike satellite, our performance does not suffer from the delay associated with a 23,000-mile path up and down.

A small 3” x 11” antenna mounted on the customer’s roof connects directly to one of our base stations located within a distance of 10 miles.  In some cases a reflector dish is required.  The base stations are in turn connected to a high-speed ethernet-over-fiber connection to the Internet. The air-link between the customer and the base station is a proprietary system that uses authentication and encryption to protect against rogue users and attackers.

The customer antenna connects to a broadband router via a standard CAT 5 ethernet cable. A surge suppressor and grounding is included to protect the customer’s equipment from lightning or static discharges. An AC adapter powers the antenna over the CAT 5 cable.

The router acts as a firewall to protect the customer’s network from Internet attackers and is an administrative demarcation point that allows customers to build their network independently.
